TECHNICAL DIRECTOR

TECHNICAL DIRECTOR

Richard Hughes

Nationality: Scottish

The former Scotland international played under Eddie Howe and then worked with him as Technical Director from 2014. Leads on scouting and recruitment. Was linked with a move to Celtic with Howe in the summer of 2021.

ASSISTANT TECHNICAL DIRECTOR

Simon Francis

Nationality: English

Former Cherries captain who made 324 appearances during nine years at Vitality Stadium. Works closely with Hughes and the recruitment department to identify and secure transfer targets. Upon Francis’s appointment to the role in June 2021, Hughes said: “Having shared a dressing room with Simon as AFC Bournemouth players, I know first hand that his knowledge of the game is exceptional.”

COACHING

HEAD COACH

Andoni Iraola

Nationality: Spanish

Progressed through the ranks at Athletic Bilbao, establishing himself as a club legend and their fifth highest appearance maker (510). First management job was with AEK Larnaca, from June 2018, where he won the Cypriot Super Cup. Then took the helm of CD Mirandés in the Sugunda División, leading them to the semi-finals of the Spanish Cup for only the second time, and Rayo Vallecano, achieving promotion to La Liga in his debut season. Led the club to 12th and 11th place finishes in the top flight. Arrived at Bournemouth in June 2023.

FIRST-TEAM COACH

Tommy Elphick

Nationality: English

Most successful captain in Bournemouth’s history. Skippered the Cherries to two promotions - to the Championship in 2012/13 and the Premier League in 2014/15. Joined coaching staff in September 2021 as Under-23s (subsequently U21s) coach. Promoted to first-team set-up when O'Neil took charge at end of 2022.

FIRST-TEAM COACH

Shaun Cooper

Nationality: English

Made 240 appearances for the club between 2005 and 2012 and returned in in October 2018 as U13s coach. Became U23s lead in November 2018 when Carl Fletcher was appointed Loans Manager. Joined the first-team set-up when O'Neil became Head Coach at the end of 2022.

HEAD OF GOALKEEPING

Neil Moss

Nationality: English

Returns as Head of Goalkeeping in December 2022, 18 months after leaving the club. Was sacked in June 2021 following arrival of Scott Parker, who had brought in his own goalkeeping coach (Rob Burch). Has a long association with the Cherries, having made 211 senior appearances for them and then been goalkeeper coach from June 2009 to 2021.

ASSISTANT GOALKEEPING COACH

Gareth Stewart

Nationality: English

As a player, he made almost 200 appearances over nine years for the Cherries and was capped at England U21 level. Rejoined in 2015 as U16s and then U21s keeper coach and joined first-team set-up in 2020.


PERFORMANCE & MEDICAL

DIRECTOR OF PERFORMANCE

Jay Mellette

Nationality: American

Appointed in July 2023. Previously Director of Sports Performance for the Vegas Golden Knights for six years. Won the 2023 Stanley Cup during his time there for the first time in their history. Prior to joining the franchise, Mellette was Director of Performance Medicine for Cirque du Soleil for 13 years and also served with distinction in the US Air Force.

HEAD OF PERFORMANCE

Alastair Harris

Nationality: English

Came in with Parker in June 2021, having previously been at Fulham for 11 years. Started with the Cottagers as an intern in 2010 before progressing to become Head of Sport Science and then Head of Performance.

HEAD OF REHAB

Charlie Moore

Nationality: English

Another who arrived with Parker, having worked with the Head Coach at Fulham and Tottenham. Was with the Cottagers from October 2020 and with Spurs for five-and-a-half years, as first-team S&C and performance and reconditioning coach.

SPORT SCIENTIST

Rob Lloyd

Nationality: English

Joined club in current role in June 2018, having been an intern with both the Cherries and Leicester City.

SPORTS SCIENTIST

SEAN McCULLAGH

Nationality: Irish

Joined in September 2016 from leading GPS firm STATSports. In that role, had been placed with Republic of Ireland (above), working with them at Euro 2016.

PHYSIO

NICK COURT

Nationality: English

Worked in rugby union with Saracens and the Melbourne Rebels before joining Bournemouth in September 2017.

PHYSIO

Stuart Douglas

Nationality: English

Former pro who played up front for Luton and Boston United during his playing career. Became a physio after retiring and worked for AFC Wimbledon for seven years before joining Bournemouth in October 2020.

Nationality: English

In post since June 2011. Was an intern at Reading before that.

PERFORMANCE NUTRITION CONSULTANT

Laura Andrews

Nationality: English

Was Lead Performance Nutritionist with QPR and Arsenal before joining Bournemouth in the summer of 2022. Wrote this piece about protein bars for TGG in April 2018.

Nationality: English

Started at the club as an analyst in October 2016, before taking up his current role in June 2017.
